The Academic Path to the Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation is a great option for students and people seeking a new career in international business. This path is ideal if you have little or no international trade training or experience.
Step 1: Complete the FITTskills Training Program or Equivalent Courses
The FITTskills program focuses on helping you develop the core competencies that are essential to succeeding in today’s competitive global marketplace. By working through the eight FITTskills courses, or equivalent transferable FITT-accredited courses, you’ll develop industry-validated knowledge and skills and you’ll satisfy the educational requirements for the CITP designation.

Step 3: Complete, or prove, at least 12 months of international business experience
The application of your international business knowledge is just as important as acquiring it. So, to apply for your CITP designation, you must complete a minimum of 12 months of professional experience in a position where the majority of your responsibilities relate to international trade.

Final Step: Prepare your CITP application and apply online
Once you’ve met the educational and work experience requirements for the CITP designation, you can prepare your CITP application. Submit your application along with a detailed and up-to-date CV and contact information for two individuals who can attest to your global business experience, such as clients, colleagues or supervisors.
