Portfolio Assessment

What is the Portfolio Assessment?

Portfolio Assessment is a record of your learning from educational, work and personal experience. It is developed by you to support your claim of competence and request for credit to the CITP* educational requirements. You can use this method of assessment for applying for credit for one or all of the CITP* competencies (FITTskills courses).

What is a Portfolio?

A Portfolio submitted to FITT is a record of your learning gained from work experience, personal development and/or education as it relates to international trade. The Portfolio is developed by you to support your claim of competence in a particular credit as outlined in the evidence grid.

What should my Portfolio contain?

A brief overview of items the portfolio must contain includes:

  • A letter of intent that briefly introduces you and the credits you are seeking
  • A resume that indicates the education and work experience for the CITP* competencies you are seeking
  • The completed evidence grid for each of the CITP* competencies you are seeking
  • Evidence to prove the competencies you are applying for. Such as descriptions of the activities you have undertaken at your place of employment; any courses, professional development, or self-directed study which you have taken; evidence from supervisors, clients, colleagues and others about your skills and abilities related to the competency for the credit(s) you are applying for.

The way in which you organize your portfolio is crucial, as the assessors should find it easy to follow and specific to your international trade evidence.

Who will assess my Portfolio?

Members of the FITT Certification and Accreditation Committee (CAC) will assess your Portfolio. The CAC is appointed by the FITT Board of Directors and is made up of five to seven qualified, unbiased international trade practitioners. Assessors evaluate each submission according to the national competency standards which are mapped to the FITTskills program.

What are the fees to submit a Portfolio?

Your Portfolio submission must be accompanied by a completed Request for Portfolio Assessment application form (included in the Portfolio Development Guide) and payment by cheque, money order, Visa or Mastercard in the amount of $275.00 plus GST/HST.

How will I find out the results of my Portfolio submission?

The results of your Portfolio will be communicated to you in writing once your Portfolio has been reviewed. Portfolios are assessed once per month.
