International Business Certification—SME AA Path to the CITP Designation

The Subject Matter Expert Accelerated Accreditation (SME AA) Path to the Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation is designed for individuals who teach our FITTskills and FITT-accredited courses. The SME AA Path enables educators to use their in-class teaching hours toward achieving FITTskills credits.

In order to qualify under the SME AA Path, you must have taught a FITTskills or FITT-accredited course at least twice within the past four years.

If you have more than 10 years of professional experience in international business, you may be eligible to apply for the CITP designation through our Executive path.

Step 1: Apply for Credit(s)
Submit evidence of your experience, including official course outlines for each credit requested and supporting documentation, such as lesson plans. You must also:

  • Obtain and submit a letter of recommendation/support from your Program Coordinator/Dean
  • Include a comprehensive cover letter and CV

Start filling out your SME AA application form today.

Please note: there is an application fee of $275 plus applicable taxes associated with the SME AA process.

Step 2: Await Your Review
FITT’s Certification and Accreditation Committee (CAC) will review your completed SME AA application form to determine your approval, denial, or whether more information is required.

Step 3: Receive FITTskills Credits
Once the CAC has reviewed your SME AA application form, you’ll be informed if you’ve qualified to receive FITTskills credits and the quantity you’ll receive. If you receive all eight FITTskills credits, you may move on to Step 4. Otherwise you’ll need to complete the additional FITTskills courses to earn all 8 credits and your FITTskills Diploma first before applying for the CITP designation. You can earn these additional credits by taking FITTskills or FITT-accredited courses through FITT or one of our educational partner institutions.

Step 4: Professional Examination
If you’ve taken all 8 FITTskills courses then you’re exempt from writing the Professional Examination.

Verify whether or not you need to write the Professional Examination. View our Credentials page, or contact us at info@fitt.ca.

Step 5: Apply for the CITP designation
Once you prove you meet the educational and work experience requirements for the CITP designation through our SME AA process, you can prepare your CITP application.
