What does CITP* stand for?
CITP* is short for Certified International Trade Professional. It is the only professional trade designation of its kind, and is earned by completing courses and meeting standards and requirements set by FITT, Canada´s international trade training and professional certification authority.
Why should I become a CITP*?
If you aspire to or already work in international trade, the Certified International Trade Professional (CITP*) designation is for you. As a CITP*, you will be recognized by employers, colleagues, and clients as a professional whose competencies in international trade are of the highest standard, and you will have the credential to prove it. You will have knowledge and skills that will provide you with a personal competitive advantage in international markets and in your place of work.
Is CITP* for me?
Just as global trade activities are multi-faceted, so too is the CITP* designation. Marketing, law, finance, logistics— the CITP* designation can reflect specialization in many of these areas. CITPs* apply their professional skills in a wide array of organizations, from small- and medium- size enterprises to large manufacturing concerns, to the public sector and associations. What they all have in common is that their organizations are active in global trade—and recognize the value of knowledge and certification in this highly competitive sphere.
How do I become a CITP*?
To qualify for the CITP* designation, you must have a minimum of one year professional international trade experience and successfully complete the FITTskills program or equivalency thereof. You will also need to agree to the Standards of Ethical Conduct, pay the annual dues and maintain membership in good standing (payment for first year will not be taken until application process is complete), and engage in ongoing professional development.
Choose the Path that’s right for you!
Does my existing experience/education count?
Prior experience and learning do count in the CITP* designation process. Participants can obtain exemptions from FITTskills course requirements through FITT´s Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process, which provides credit for previous work experience and/or education.
How do I maintain the CITP* designation?
Ethical Conduct: CITPs* are required to comply with basic concepts of competency and integrity detailed in the CITP* Standards of Ethical Conduct. These fully articulated standards provide a guideline for CITP* professional conduct in terms of responsibilities to individuals, organizations, the community and society, the profession, as well as conflict of interest.
